How to Download Youtube Videos using Wget

I use the Linux operating system and all the commands here have been tasted on linux only!

What is wget

GNU Wget is a free software package for retrieving files using HTTP, HTTPS and FTP, the most widely-used Internet protocols. It is a non-interactive commandline tool, so it may easily be called from scripts, cron jobs, terminals without X-Windows support, etc.

How to download youtube videos using Wget

• Copy the address of the video you want to download in the address bar of youtube.
• Use a web service like keepvid to get the download link of the video
• To get the download link using keepvid, just paste the address gotten from the youtube address bar into the keepvid address field and click on download
• Then right click on the links provided and select copy link address as shown below
  
• Use a web address shortening service like is.gd to shorten the download link
• Open a terminal and type

• wget  "shortened address"

• When the download reaches 100%, the video should be in your current working directory

Viber for Linux – The linux desktop client for linux is now available!

Viber For linux Has been released!

The first Viber version for linux is now available for testing and downloads. The linux version comes after this app company officialy lunched a desktop version for Mac and Windows.

Viber for Linux has currently been tested on on the following: Ubuntu, Mint, Zorin OS and Fedora. The organisation is calling for us all to help do some testing and bug reports for this new product

Installation instructions

To install Viber for Linux follow these instructions.

1. Download the Viber.zip archive file from here
2. Extract the Viber folder from the .zip archive.
3. Copy the Viber folder to your Home folder.
4. Open Terminal and enter the path of the Viber Folder.
5. Run the following command in the terminal to launch Viber Desktop client:
   [developer@BigIdeaz ~]$ ./Viber.sh

NOTE:The terminal must remain open when launching Viber for the first time. Closing the client will not terminate the terminal

How to Make XFCE Panel Transparent on Arch Linux

To start,

• I am using the Mac theme for linux which can be gotten from here
• I am also using the Oxygen Icon theme

This is my desktop before

Step 1

Click on Application Menu -> Settings -> Window Manager Tweaks

Step 2

Click on the Compositor tab and Check the Enable Display Compositing Checkbox.

Step 3

• Right Click on the top panel and go toPanel -> Panel preferences
• You now have this window
• Select panel 2 on the dropdown menu and Click on the appearance tab

Step 4

• Reduce the Alpha scroll bar to zero
• Click on Close button

codepad.com is a very fast and reliable online compiler in a variety of programming languages and it even gives you the chance to run your program! Better check it out

pkg-config trubleshooting and most used c-algorithm library

If you have errors when using pkg-config to link a library then the following may be usefull

It can be fixed by adding the following lines to the file /etc/environment

1. PKG_CONFIG_PATH=Location of *.pc file
2. LD_LIBRARY_PATH=Location of Library

And you compile it with

gcc -o name_of_executable `pkg-config –cflags –libs library_name` main.c

For example in the case of the c-algorithms library from http://is.gd/6NG4pN

After installig you add the following lines to the /etc/environment file

1. PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/
2. LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib

And the code can now be compiled with

gcc -o name_of_executable `pkg-config –cflags –libs libcalg-1.0` main.c
